What is the most effective tranq in Ark?
Tranq darts increase in effectiveness from weapon quality way more than tranq arrows do. The tranq darts only multiply their torpor damage from weapon quality, so you do way less health damage per shot than tranq arrows. If you have an improved longneck rifle, darts are the way to go. dont forget the frogs....

The target's torpor will increase by 1200% of the damage dealt instantaneously, as well as an additional 500% of the damage over the next 5 seconds, for a total of 442 Torpor with a 100% Longneck Rifle. It can also stop the player from moving.
1 narcotic adds 40 torpor when eaten/remotely used. Narcotics are better for taming because when feeding narcoberries it actually decreases the taming effectiveness while narcotics do nothing to the effectiveness.

The Tek Bow is by far the most effective tool to knock out a rex just wait about five seconds between each shot so your not wasting and element shards.
Since the bow cannot be fired underwater, but can be fired into water for at least a short distance, an effective way to tame Megalodons is to tranquilize them in shallow waters with 10-30 Tranq arrows.

Knocking out a Raptor
Two or three tranq arrows should be enough to get the job done on almost any lvl of raptor. If you've got no tranquilizer arrows, you can do it the old fashioned way with a slingshot and/ or punches.
Around maybe 100 darts, arrows you could need upwards of 300 or so (from personal experience with giga taming), depending on what kind of bow your using.

It's easier if you build the trap on flat ground. TRAP THE GIGA: get the giga to follow you and make it go inside the trap, then make sure it's caught in the bear trap. When it's stuck in the bear trap go behind it and complete the trap with another gateway. The final shape of the trap looks like a Trapezoidal.
Tips & Strategies. For low levels all you need is height, 10 tranq darts (get more just incase) 30 narcotics and 20 fish. Shoot it, feed it with narcotics (and fish) until it get to like 94% tame, and you should have a spino.
Are tranq spear bolts worth it?
It can be used to easily knock out creatures underwater. However, it is not effective when used on land, as it will not travel very far. They do approximately 36 damage per hit and induce 300 torpor.
Tame it with Narcoberry, it more effiency. 100 Berry adds 700 torpor but you need 500 to make 100 narcotic.
It sounds like you are useing a standard bow, which without bonus dmg makes it tougher. But you need to wait 5 seconds before firing bow again to get FULL effects of tranq arrow.
You can kill them with tranq arrows but it takes a very long time.

With the amount of resources it takes to make 1 tranq dart your can make 4 tranq arrows equating to about 630 torpor vs 221 torpor. For a shock tranq dart it's 630 vs 442. For the tranq spear, you can make 7 tranq arrows which equates to 1,102.5 torpor vs 306 torpor.
