What questions are on an eTA?
This includes your name, date and place of birth, gender, marital status, address, nationality and passport number. You will also need to answer a few simple background questions to determine if you can come to Canada. For example, you will be asked about your current job and if you have any medical issues.
Most applications are approved within minutes but some can take longer. You may need to submit additional documents before your application can be approved. If this happens to you, an email will be sent with instructions within 72 hours.
You'll be notified by email when your eTA is approved. The approval email includes your eTA number. Keep this number in case you need to contact us or want to check the status of your eTA in the future.
To apply you must have a valid passport from a visa-exempt country, a valid credit and an email address. It costs $7 CAD to get an eTA and only takes a few minutes to apply. Approved eTAs are valid for up to five years.
ETA is used to answer the question, "When is X expected to arrive?", which can be answered either as, "In 20 minutes" or "At 4:30 PM".
Most applicants get their eTA approval (via an email) within minutes. However, some requests can take several days to process if you're asked to submit supporting documents. It is best to get an eTA before you book your flight to Canada. An eTA costs CAD $7.
Reasons for Canadian eTA Refusal
Read through the following list of reasons as to why an eTA Canada may have been denied: Court conviction or criminal offense. Human rights violation. Security breaches and/or other security reasons.
Do VWP travelers need to bring a paper printout of their ESTA approval to the airport? No. DHS will be able to communicate a traveler's ESTA status to the carriers. However, DHS recommends that travelers print out the ESTA application response in order to maintain a record of their ESTA application number.
If the passport number you previously used to obtain the eTA no longer matches your current passport number, you must change the eTA. To do this, you will have to reapply for an eTA by filling out the online form a second time and paying your application fees again.
Travel authorization is rarely denied but in the unlikely event that your eTA application results in a “travel not authorized” outcome, your next best option is to obtain a visa for travel to Canada through a Canadian embassy or consulate. There is no additional eTA review process or appeal for this outcome.
How long does it take to get eTA approval in USA?
Most applicants receive their ESTA authorization within 2 business days of applying. Many will be approved within a few minutes of submitting the form.

When communicating the ETA to your manager or colleagues — use dates and not days. When speaking with dates it is much more clear when everything will be done. I also recommend explaining the release process and if your final ETA is the public release date or an initial release.

Can I try again if I am denied entry to the US?
If I Am Denied Entry to the USA, Can I Try Again? Yes, if you are denied entry into the United States, you can try to re-enter by applying for a Waiver of Inadmissibility. These waivers, which can be valid for up to five years in some cases, can allow you to enter the United States even if you are ineligible.
We encourage you to reapply for an eTA only once you have addressed the reason(s) leading to the refusal of your application.

You could be considered criminally inadmissible if Canada would consider your crime an “indictable offence,” which generally refers to a more serious crime. In the U.S. it is comparable to a felony. If you have two non-indictable offences from separate acts, you may also be inadmissible.
The travel document usually arrives within 150 days (sometimes longer) after submitting your application. You can't leave the country until you have your approved travel document in hand, so you should expect to spend the 3–5 months after submitting your green card application in the United States.
If you are a TPS beneficiary applying for a new travel authorization document, you should continue to use Form I-131, Application for Travel Document. If you have a pending Form I-131, you do not need to file a new application.
ESTA applications may be submitted at any time prior to travel. The processing of an ESTA can take up to 72 hours. It is also advisable to check the status of an already approved ESTA in advance of traveling to make sure that it is still valid.

The ETA allows eligible non-citizens to travel as many times as you want, for up to one year (or life of the passport - whichever is shorter), and stay up to three months for each visit, provided you are pursuing tourism or business visitor activity. There's no official limit on how many times you can apply for a re-entry permit. However, if you've spent more than 4 of the previous 5 years since gaining a green card outside the United States, you'll only be issued a re-entry permit valid for a single year.
What is electronic authorization?
eTA: an electronic travel authorization or eTA is an entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals traveling to or transiting to a country, usually by air. It allows the destination or transit country to screen travelers before they arrive, increasing visibility and security.
How long you can stay. Most visitors can stay for up to 6 months in Canada. At the port of entry, the border services officer may allow you to stay for less or more than 6 months. If so, they'll put the date you need to leave by in your passport.
A Canada eTA is not a visa—it is an electronic travel authorisation which allows you to enter Canada without a visa. The eTA number is not the same as a Canada visa number, as they are 2 different travel documents. A Canada eTA number refers to a travel authorisation, while a visa number relates to a visa.
Step 5: After you apply
If your eTA is approved you will receive an email confirming you are allowed to travel to Canada by air. Your eTA will be linked to your passport. You will need to show your passport to airline staff whenever you board a flight to Canada.
We accept your ESTA application at anytime, 24 hours/day, 365 days/year. The results of your application should be sent about three days after you apply, but we recommend applying for ESTA soon after you decide to travel to the U.S.
Your ESTA authorization is generally valid for multiple trips over a period of two years (starting the date that you are approved) or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. As long as you received an ESTA authorization to travel, you do not have to reapply during the validity period.
By the end of 2024, people who do not need a visa to enter the United Kingdom will need to have an electronic travel authorisation, or ETA, before they visit. These 'non-visa nationals', including EU and US citizens, can currently travel to the UK without a visa if visiting for up to six months.

The application fee for the most common nonimmigrant visa types is US$185. This includes tourist, business, student, and exchange visas. Most petition-based visas, such as work and religious visas, are US$205. K visas cost US$265 and the fee amount for E visas is US$315.

Can I travel to Canada with my US birth certificate?
Canada requires proof of citizenship or resident status to enter the country under §§14(3) and 14(4) of the Passport and Travel Documents section of the Immigration Regulations of Canada (enclosed). A birth certificate is one form of proof.

The regular visa typically requires visiting the embassy and, sometimes, a visa interview. It is way more bureaucratic than an eVisa, which you can apply for from home with a few clicks. Also, a paper visa used to take longer to process than an eVisa.
The main difference between the E-visa and On-Arrival visa is that you have to apply for the visa in the E-visa category but in the On-Arrival visa, you actually don't have to apply for a visa formally. The 2nd difference is that the whole process is virtual for E-Visa and not for the On-Arrival visa.
Getting an evisa, in general, is cheaper than an embassy visa. Getting a regular or embassy visa is more expensive than getting an electronic visa. The electronic visa application is a more straightforward process. The visa application process for a regular visa involves a lengthy process and many steps.
