Starting in 2024, U.S. passport holders traveling to Europe will need to apply for authorization through the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) before their visit. While U.S. nationals currently enjoy visa-free access to most E.U.
The new Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), as it's called, will cost about ยฃ10 ($12.50) and will be fully implemented at the end of 2024 as the UK continues to digitalize its border control systems.
U.S. citizens with valid passports traveling for tourism or business can enter France without a visa for a period of 90 days within each six-month period. For French visa information please see the French Embassy's website .
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: U.S. citizens do not need a visa for tourist or business travel to the United Kingdom for a stay up to 6 months. A valid U.S. Passport is required.
U.S. citizens do not require a Tourist Visa to enter Scotland. However, a U.S. passport is required: Your U.S. passport must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the date you plan to depart Scotland.
Entry, Exit and Visa Requirements
You must have a valid passport to enter Ireland. U.S. citizens can enter visa-free for tourism or business stays of up to 90 days. There is no minimum passport validity requirement for U.S. citizens entering Ireland.
U.S. citizens may enter Italy for up to 90 days for tourist or business purposes without a visa. All non-residents are required to complete a declaration of presence (dichiarazione di presenza).
